What is a Shamrock Shake?

A shamrock shake is a popular drink this time of year! People count down the days until the vibrant green milkshakes come out at the fast food joints.

This delicious drink is a peppermint flavored milkshake made with vanilla soft served ice cream, topped with whipped cream and a cherry. A festive option in March to celebrate spring or on St. Patrick’s day!

After trying our nutrient-dense shamrock shake, we bet you opt to make your own rather than buying them out. They are ultra creamy, minty smoothie is so healthy, you can enjoy it as dessert OR breakfast.

The ingredients needed for healthy shamrock shakes.

Our kids love treats made with our superfood Monk Fruit Sweetener. As a mom, I want to be able to spoil them with fun treats, but I am also concerned about their sugar intake.

They call ZenSweet Monk Fruit Sweetener “the healthy sugar.”

It measures cup-for-cup for the processed stuff, and has no calories — which means it’s easy to add to your favorite recipes but won’t cause a sugar rush!

How to Make a Healthy Shamrock Shake

Step 1: We use frozen bananas and spinach in our peppermint green smoothies because it makes them super thick and makes it easier to always have these things on hand.

Add all the ingredients into a blender.

Step 2: Process the ingredients until the smoothie is super smooth. If necessary, thin out with more coconut milk or a splash or almond milk.

Step 1 shows adding all the ingredients to a blender, and step 2 shows processing it until it's super smooth.

Step 3: Top with a homemade whipped cream, sweetened with ZenSweet Monk Fruit Sweetener, or with whipped coconut cream.

Shamrock Protein Shake

We love to add a pop of protein to our green smoothies. You can do that with this healthy shamrock shake recipe by either:

  1. Adding 1/2 cup of full fat Greek yogurt
  2. 1/4 cup of hemp hearts
  3.  Adding a scoop of your favorite whey protein isolate
  4. Using your favorite vegan protein powder
